Welcome to Spoony Stories ❤️🥄 There's no place like Spoony, that's for sure! We have the loveliest community and it's been such a joy getting to know some of the wonderful people on Spoony and learning more about their experiences with neurodivergence, chronic illness and disability.
This week, we've been chatting with Liam from the United Kingdom. He shares his experiences living with Functional Neurological Disorder, why he's grateful for Spoony, and so much more! ♥️
Are you neurodivergent, chronically ill, and/or disabled?
Neurodivergent, chronically ill, and disabled.
What health conditions do you have?
Functional Neurological Disorder.
How do you explain your health conditions to other people?
In 2016, I was diagnosed with severe Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) which resulted in me being bedridden, unable to move or speak. I was bedridden for three years and felt trapped inside my own body.
What impact do your health conditions have on your daily life?
FND had a life changing impact on me, it took all of my abilities away from me when I was just 13. The impact of having the condition is still felt to this day in my body.
What barriers have you experienced in making friends and connecting with people?
FND left me a prisoner in my own body. I was housebound for three years and I wasn’t well enough to return to school.
What's been your experience on Spoony so far?
It’s good to know that there’s a community who can understand and relate to what you’re going through.
Each week, we share stories from the incredible Spoony community in our newsletter, podcast, and on social media. Share your story with us.
