Welcome to Spoony Stories ❤️🥄 It's official, Spoony has the kindest community on the planet! It's such a joy to get to know some of the lovely folks who make Spoony so darn wonderful, and learning more about their experiences with neurodivergence, chronic illness and disability.
This week, we've been chatting with Katherine from United Kingdom. She shares what it's like navigating life with ADHD and Autism, her experiences with friendships, and so much more! ♥️
Are you neurodivergent, chronically ill, and/or disabled?
Neurodivergent.
What health conditions do you have?
Autism and ADHD.
How do you explain your health conditions to other people?
I try to be open about it to people I care about. Although sometimes I think it’s so obvious that I don’t need to tell anyone
What impact do your health conditions have on your daily life?
I have days where I can't speak to anyone and it's too hard to complete just one simple task. I struggle with hyperfixations where I focus on a non-urgent task that takes over my whole life and I can't do anything else until it's finished.
What barriers have you experienced in making friends and connecting with people?
I find it hard to trust other people due to past experiences. I also have a low social battery and when it runs out, I can't interact anymore. Sometimes people find this rude.
What's been your experience on Spoony so far?
I love having a safe space to just be me. I can write about my struggles or something that makes me happy and I'll always receive lots of supportive and kind replies.
Each week, we share stories from the incredible Spoony community in our newsletter, podcast, and on social media. Share your story with us.
